Cardiff Living will actively support young people to raise their aspirations and skills by engaging with schools, colleges and universities. We want to attract more young people to work in this exciting sector.
Engaging with local schools
We will be liaising and working closely with local primary schools across the city, educating children of all ages on the world of construction and the Cardiff Living projects. This will include health and safety talks and site visits, as well as interactive talks from Ivor Goodsite (the mascot of Considerate Constructors scheme) to ensure local children understand the importance of staying away from building sites and keeping safe whilst playing with their friends.
We will also be engaging with secondary schools to provide opportunities for pupils interested in a career in construction, providing opportunities for them to visit our sites, speak to our project teams and learn about the many different career paths in the industry.
We would welcome any local schools to get in touch with us to discuss available opportunities.
Employment – local business
We have committed to:
- recruiting apprentices and maximising the use of local labour on all Cardiff Living projects
- providing work placements for local residents linked to East Cardiff schemes including Lift, ECLP (East Cardiff, Llanederyn and Pentwyn Communities First) and Communities 4 Work
- supporting local business by ensuring our supply chain incorporates local partners and suppliers, including social enterprises which invest profits back into local communities
