Cardiff Living is an ambitious regeneration project that will significantly improve the available housing stock within existing communities and provide existing residents with affordable routes into high quality local housing.

The ten-year programme will include around 600 homes which will be available to rent or buy via the Council’s Assisted Home Ownership Scheme, while the remaining 900 homes will be available for sale on the open market.

Fulfilling a commitment to improve quality of life for residents, the new homes will offer enhanced living environments that will meet high levels of sustainability and energy efficiency.

One of the key objectives of the project, in addition to delivering vital new homes, is to invest in our communities. The project will deliver real community benefits including the creation of long-term local training and employment opportunities.

Each development will also promote physical activity through the built environment. We will prioritise pedestrian travel over motorised transport through the Home Zones concept, creating active travel structures and layouts and promoting access to open spaces and community/retail facilities by walking or cycling.

Our vision

Our vision is to deliver exemplar quality homes and regenerate neighbourhoods in one of Europe’s most liveable cities. Cardiff Living is a new kind of housing partnership that offers the best in both private and affordable construction and development expertise alongside a strong commitment to communities and regeneration.

Modern life design

Our new homes are designed with modern life in mind. They are spaces that will complement your lifestyle and allow you to grow. High specification design and unrivalled build quality results in a home that you can live in without compromise.

Energy efficiency

All homes will be built to high energy efficiency standards and be more sustainable, resulting in lower energy bills for residents and reduced demand for energy from the environment.

Connected communities

Our developments are connected communities that offer direct access to a thriving capital city alongside road, rail and air links for convenient travel to domestic and international destinations.

Partners

The partners of Cardiff Living each bring their individual qualities and expertise, resulting in developments that are an exemplar of both the built environment and the social environment.

Community spirit

Our developments are woven into the fabric of existing communities. The provision of shared amenities and public space contribute to the existing community spirit and create homes and neighbourhoods that people want to be part of.

Enjoy the environment

Each development will prioritise pedestrian travel over motorised transport through the Home Zones concept, creating active travel structures and layouts and promote access to open spaces and community / retail facilities by walking or cycling.

Embracing the community

Embracing the community

The Cardiff Living Team will be holding open information sessions on all sites to update neighbours and interested parties from local communities on plans and progress. These sessions will include plans and drawings to allow communities to better understand what works will be undertaken. We will also offer regular updates into what events and activities are taking place in each local community.

Wates Residential is a proud, long-term Associate member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, and strives to be a good neighbour within the communities in which we build new homes. As part of our commitment to the communities of Cardiff, we will be communicating regularly with neighbours regarding all site related issues.

We will issue project update newsletters regularly and will host ‘open doors’ days for local residents to come to our sites, see works in progress and ask our team any questions about the projects.

Every year we will be undertaking a local community project as part of Wates’ Reshaping Tomorrow week initiative, where our project team and local volunteers give up their time to help a local community group or good cause. We will announce which project we are supporting nearer the time, but past events have included supporting a special educational needs school to provide outside classroom space, creating a sensory garden and painting and decorating community centres / sports clubs. We welcome any suggestions for future projects from the communities in which we are working.

Community investment and employment

Community investment and employment

The Cardiff Living partnership is dedicated to delivering far more than high quality homes. We have committed to target our recruitment and training opportunities at the people living in the Cardiff communities in which we are developing.

The opportunities available through our 10 year programme will include employment, apprenticeships, work placements, training and volunteering. We will also be working alongside local groups and local schools and colleges to provide added community benefits, including delivery of our training and curriculum support programmes. You can find more on these programmes through the links below.

All employment and training opportunities will be advertised through our Current Vacancies or Events pages.

The flats are dual aspect, spacious and open plan and have large private balconies to create a light and airy space.

The scheme has been designed to RNIB Platinum standards and complies with the HAPPI standards

The individual properties are self-contained but the scheme has communal facilities such as a lounge, roof terrace/lounge with views across the Bristol Channel, a laundry room, a courtyard garden, parking spaces including electrical car charging points and facilities for storing and charging mobility scooters. Community living schemes will also provide a range of services for the wider older person population to help tackle social isolation and promote wellbeing.
