About Cardiff Living
Just two years since the launch of Cardiff Living, the innovative development partnership between Cardiff Council and Wates Residential, we are pleased to have already commenced work on the first new homes at sites in Llanrumney and St Mellons. This is just the first phase in a programme that will eventually deliver 1,500 new homes across Cardiff in the next ten years.
The first new developments, Captain’s View and Silvervale Park, will offer 242 new homes between them, the first of which should be complete by summer 2019. Both developments will offer a mix of new homes, from one/two bedroom apartments through to two/three/four bedroom family homes.
These new homes are formally launched in spring 2018 and, in the meantime, residents can register their interest by clicking here.
Cardiff Living is an ambitious regeneration project that will significantly improve the available housing stock within existing communities and provide existing residents with affordable routes into high quality local housing.
The ten-year programme will include around 600 homes which will be available to rent or buy via the Council’s Assisted Home Ownership Scheme, while the remaining 900 homes will be available for sale on the open market.
Fulfilling a commitment to improve quality of life for residents, the new homes will offer enhanced living environments that will meet high levels of sustainability and energy efficiency.
One of the key objectives of the project, in addition to delivering vital new homes, is to invest in our communities. The project will deliver real community benefits including the creation of long-term local training and employment opportunities.
Each development will also promote physical activity through the built environment. We will prioritise pedestrian travel over motorised transport through the Home Zones concept, creating active travel structures and layouts and promoting access to open spaces and community/retail facilities by walking or cycling.
We are developing 1,500 new homes in Caerau, Llanishen, Llanrumney, St Mellons, Old St Mellons, Rumney, Heath, Ely and Gabalfa over the next 10 years. The first homes will be available to buy from spring 2018.
